STEADFAST in PRAYER

Who touched me?

A question with so many different underlying meanings.  There is a touch of love, or compassion, or protection or even pain.

This summer has already seen so much activity the news telling us about financial crisis, homes and businesses ruined by flood water, even England beaten in the quarter final of Euro 2012.  With all that’s been happening we could so easily have missed a major event, one with profound historical meaning and implication.  This week as part of the jubilee tour the Queen has visited Northern Ireland, during the visit her Majesty met with Martin McGuinness formally in leadership within the IRA.  Their meeting involved a hand shake, they touched each other a touch that spoke more powerfully than a thousand words, a touch with the power to bring about both healing and reconciliation, for them and for the peoples of both Northern Ireland and England.

In this weeks Gospel reading the power of touch is also much in evidence.  Jesus touched the little girl when He took her by the hand, a touch that brought life out of death and complete healing. The woman suffering from haemorrhages touched Jesus’ cloak, a touch that brought healing for her.  There is a two way dynamic within relationships we touch or are touched.

Are we bold enough to allow Jesus to bring us from death to life, heal us in every way by His presence and touch?  Then are we bold enough to reach out and touch others with His love?

Who have we touched today?

Revd  Celia.
